Innovation in Agri-machineries
Design and development of low-cost technologies intended specifically for agriculture-related activities started in 1987 at the College of Agriculture of Central Philippine University (CPU). These appropriate technologies catered to the needs of farmers not only in the Western Visayas Region but also in other parts of the country. Technologies developed include paddy dryers, windpumps, poultry incubators, furnaces, and biomass shredders. Projects were developed in collaboration with private sectors and government agencies.
In 2000, CPU provided a building for the establishment of the Appropriate Technology Center (APPROTECH), under the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Environmental Management of the College of Agriculture, Resources, and Environmental Science. APPROTECH also serves as a training ground to develop the entrepreneurial and engineering skills of students through exposure and actual project involvement.
